Since Katy has been the frequent caller throughout this and last year's trip I was a little surprised -- ok flat out insulted -- that she hadn't called since 4:30 Saturday morning. Tired of listening to me whine about wondering what she was doing, was it fun, who had dropped what into a body of water and what goofy things had been done by her travel mates, Doug called the hotel to check in. She was very pleased to hear from him. Surprise!Apparently, the hotel has blocked all outgoing calls from the hotel rooms allowing only room to room calls. There are couple of pay phones in the lobby (really, I think like two) and the kids have to have a leader to with them to make a call. So there have been very few calls going out.
So our update: The Maori are amazing, if they had tryouts Kate would want to be one. Yesterday's activities were really cool and . . . she took a lot of pictures! They are having a great time and still seem to really like each other. Everyone is having a great time and she can't wait to get her pictures developed on Sunday morning (good thing I'm not headed to work) so we can go through them right away!Kate suggested that we call her again tomorrow at 6:00 AM since that would be about 9:00 PM there. The kids will most likely be back in their rooms and it's before lights out. (That said, I take no responsibility if your child is out messing around when you call!)
Anyway, sounds like all's well on the other side of the world.

Denise, you do seem to get lots of info from Kate! Sarah will answer our questions but not much detail. She said she is doing a good job of journaling (do they get to bring their journals home?)so I guess she thinks we can read about her adventures. I am almost down to counting the minutes until she gets home. She has already said she will cry at the airport when she has to say good-bye to the friends she has made!
I just got up and called AJ per his request-it is always great to talk to him but he never has many details to share! There moms of boys are sure lucky. So thank you all for your sharing and please continue or I may think nothing exciting ever happened!!!
